Is Barbault’s Basket in the room now?
A gentle reminder that clickbait has a shelf life and the sky does not
“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.”
Somebody Tell Me Who Let This Happen
[Technically speaking (skip over this bit if you don’t want the full monty on the astro babble): The basket is named after André Barbault, a French astrologer who spent decades studying long-term cycles of the outer planets and built what he called the Cyclic Index (a way of measuring how concentrated or dispersed the outer planets are at any given time). The July 2026 occurrence specifically involves: an opposition between Jupiter and Pluto Retrograde at 4° Leo and 4° Aquarius respectively, Uranus at 4° Gemini and Neptune Retrograde at 4° Aries with the transiting Moon in Libra forming the “handle” of the basket.
Your feed has been convinced the sky was staging a jump scare for 72 hours starting today. Barbault's Basket. The great convergence. The end of the dystopian timeline as we know it and the miraculous coming of the new utopia. Cue the epic music, cue the countdown clock, cue the fifteen infographics with the same stock photo of something being reborn from the ashes.
Here's the thing: a paradigm shift is happening. That's not the part I'm debunking. What we need to step away from is the idea that it’s all fait accompli in seventy-two hours like a cosmic pop-up event where you meet the love of your life or receive an offer that changes your reality forever.
Naming the exact moment this paradigm shift "starts" is a like trying to pin down your company's birthday. (Trust me. I know this conundrum well in my work with founders.) Was it the day you thought of it? Filed the paperwork? Opened the doors? Took your first client? Barbault’s Basket is the trailer — which is not the movie.
The Moon Must See It to Believe It
For any event to enter consciousness, it needs to be perceived by the Moon.
This is why I constantly nag those of you who I work with regularly (especially recently with all of these outer planets so early into their signs) that you shouldn’t initiate during the period known as the “void of course”. When the moon is “void”, she doesn’t see any other planets until she changes signs. She’s out there, at night, driving a highway in Texas — no other cars, no wildlife crossing the highway, and potentially hundreds of miles to the next fuel station. It’s also why we may have some “EPIC TRANSIT” but nothing seems to happen until the moon sees the hole(s) punched in the sky by it.
Anyhoo, Barbault’s Basket is activated by this Libra Moon seeing ALL of the outers (including Saturn who isn’t mathematically involved but is co-present in Aries and who is standing opposite to her), and like a conductor, she starts the symphony and will continue to conduct as she moves through the sky, coordinating the change they are effecting on a mass level.
The exact basket might be this weekend, but the work of all of the outer planets and the nodes of the moon being in the masculine modality now begins in earnest.
The Last Time This Happened, the World Went Home
Regular readers will remember the Four Horsemen framework from earlier this year that I first discussed in A Tale of Two Years: Mars' cazimi reset in January, Saturn's real entry into Aries in February, Uranus settling into Gemini in April, the nodes finally landing in Leo and Aquarius this July. That sequence wasn't background noise. It was the slow, deliberate assembly of the exact configuration that's now completing: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and both lunar nodes, all occupying masculine signs at the same time from July 26, 2026 to July 25/26, 2027 (when Jupiter enters Virgo).
The last time all of them clustered into one gender-mode of sign at once was December 2, 2019 to March 21, 2020. Then it was feminine signs: Capricorn, Taurus, Pisces, Cancer. The most receptive, generative, and private placements there are.
The entire planet got sent home: Forced into stillness, reception, reassessing what "home", “vulnerability”, and "support" actually means — whether it wanted to or not.
2026 is the mirror. Not a repeat. A flip. That window asked "can and how do you receive? what are you receiving? what are your enabling to grow? can you rest? can you ask for help?"
This one asks "what are you taking action about? are you and can you own the consequences of your actions? how do you provision the people you care about and the part of reality that you’re responsible for? are you shining your light in a way that it draws out the light in others? how are you investing and using your energy?”
You Do Not Get to Steer This One
Every year someone asks me how to "use" the outer planet transits, like Jupiter is a vending machine you can shake if the snack gets stuck. It doesn’t work that way, and this year especially, it will not work that way.
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, the nodes (aka Rahu and Ketu) are transpersonal and therefore outside conscious reach.
Sure, traditional astrology says you can remediate Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu — but you do so by submitting and surrendering to them and their lessons. For example: With Jupiter you strengthen your belief and strive to understand your place in the universe or you double down on the spiritual system / technology you use to connect to something larger than your self/ego. Saturn asks you to cultivate patience, discipline, accountability. Rahu challenges you to pierce through the objects of your obsession to the change in identity and self-knowledge the quest to acquire them call forth in you. Ketu demands unconditional surrender of that which no longer serves or is necessary for self-acceptance.
In contrast, you can consciously remediate your Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, and even Mars on demand since they are bound up in your embodiment and function via empowerment and sovereignty.
With these outer energies that bound the inner planets, you don’t steer. Instead, you’re asked to navigate the arc of reaction to responsiveness that it puts you through — a chasm of self-recognition, self-realization, and self-acceptance you learn how to bridge.
The Rise of the Middle Sister: A Yang Too Full to Hold
There's a longer cycle sitting underneath all of this that Western pop astrology hasn't touched. In the Chinese metaphysics, we’re two years into Period 9, the current 20-year chapter of the classical Chinese Flying Star cycle, which began February 4, 2024, and runs through 2043. Period 9 is a fire period. Classically described as the ascendancy of the feminine — specifically, the era in which middle-aged women rise to shepherd society, to lead, to steward the planet forward. We are, structurally, already living inside a matriarchal window.
Which is what makes this masculine planetary convergence so much more structurally necessary than the hype lets on. Picture the yin-yang symbol: the white has expanded to total fullness, filling every available inch. And it's precisely because it's full — because it has nowhere left to grow that the black seed at its center is forced to emerge. That's not contradiction. That's the mechanism.
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and both nodes in masculine signs isn't a referendum against the feminine ascendancy already underway. It's the rebalancing and reworking of the relationships between masculine and feminine that makes it possible.
Just as the feminine modality period from December 2019 - March 2020 showed us that we needed to rebalance what the feminine in ALL OF US receives, grows, and nurtures in relation to the masculine, the challenge of this year long period is how to recalibrate on what and how the masculine in ALL OF USexerts energy, stabilizes and provisions — in order for the feminine to mother, heal, and hold.
Death to the False King
Along with the basket is the issue of pop astrology’s repeated affirmation (as if it’s gospel) that the eclipses on the axis of Aquarius North Node / Leo South Node mean “no more kings”.
I mean, okay. Sure. That’s having a moment.
But no external political event will effect lasting change (hello all the failed revolutions that were supposed to usher in new eras of equal provision, human rights, and utopia) unless the internal change is made collectively via the personal evolution. You can’t have a utopia unless your idea of being a citizen fundamentally changes. Everything else is wealth redistribution while greed continues to persist and will inevitably become the old regime with a different name and hands on the helm.
The eclipses and nodes are not destroying “kingship” or hierarchy — whatever you want to call it. They're destroying false kings — the borrowed authority, the performance of confidence standing in for the real thing, provision and stability masking avarice and the kind of weakness that prompts the need for control.
Yes, those we’ve delegated our sovereignty will most likely be taken to task because, as individuals, our lives will repeatedly ask us: What has been blinding you to the true nature of your own sovereignty? What are you actually in control of? (Hint: Nothing except what you do with how you react to your world.) What are you exerting energy upon? What are you provisioning and how and with what? What is your REAL genius and what and for whom are you truly using it to call out the light in others in a way that creates community and a sustainable path into the future?

KEY TAKEAWAY
Barbault's Basket is a kickoff not the destination. We're being called to rebalance the masculine to provide the stage for the feminine in ALL OF US.
